What is included in a £180 Brand Discovery Roadmap for small businesses? (Approx. $240).

Hi, I’m Bry, founder of Hi This Is Bry. I’m a multi award winning Creative Strategist and Brand Consultant helping people build award worthy brands and make them visible. I write about branding, marketing, visibility and consumer behaviour, breaking down why recognisable brands succeed, why people buy and what you can apply to what you’re building.

Starting a business is exciting, but there are a surprising number of things to consider before you even begin thinking about logos, websites or social media. You might have a brilliant idea for something you want to sell, but understanding who you're selling it to, how much to charge and what will make your business stand out can be considerably more complicated.

I've also worked with businesses that have already invested time and money into building their brand, only to discover problems that could have been avoided much earlier. Sometimes they've used graphics or fonts without the appropriate licences, created branding that doesn't work across different applications or developed an identity that isn't attracting the customers they actually want.

And that's particularly frustrating when somebody has spent months getting everything ready, only to realise they need to go backwards and redo work they've already paid for.

That's why I created my £180 Brand Discovery Roadmap, a practical brand strategy service for small businesses and solopreneurs who want professional guidance before investing too heavily in the wrong direction. It combines a detailed questionnaire, a one-hour consultation and a dedicated day of strategic research and planning, resulting in a personalised roadmap you can use to guide your next steps.

What is a Brand Discovery Roadmap?

A Brand Discovery Roadmap is a detailed plan for developing or improving your business, helping you understand who you're trying to reach, what you want to sell, how you should position yourself and what needs to happen before you begin investing in branding and marketing.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about branding is that it starts with designing a logo, when there are some much more important decisions worth making first. Your audience, positioning, services, pricing and future plans can all influence the kind of visual identity and marketing your business needs.

For example, somebody might spend money developing a beautiful brand identity before deciding they want to sell to a completely different audience, only to discover that their original branding no longer reflects the business they're building.

My roadmap helps bring those decisions into focus, giving you a clearer understanding of what you're trying to achieve and how the different parts of your business can support one another.

Who is the Brand Discovery Roadmap for?

I designed this service for small business owners and solopreneurs who need a clearer direction, whether they're preparing to launch or reconsidering a business that isn't performing as expected.

If you're starting a new business, the roadmap can help you explore your audience, services, pricing and positioning before spending money on a visual identity, website or marketing materials. Having those foundations in place can make it much easier to brief designers, create relevant content and make consistent decisions as the business develops.

It's also suitable for established businesses that feel stuck or have discovered that their original branding no longer works. Perhaps you're attracting the wrong customers, struggling to justify your prices or finding that your business looks almost identical to everybody else in your industry.

Sometimes the problem is more practical, such as branding that doesn't reproduce well in print, a logo that becomes unreadable on signage or visual assets that can't be used as freely as the business originally expected.

Rather than immediately recommending a complete rebrand, I want to understand what's happening and identify the most useful direction for the business moving forward.

Why is brand strategy important before creating a logo or website?

One of the most expensive mistakes I see small businesses make is investing heavily in branding and marketing before they've properly considered how the business needs to operate.

A visual identity might look attractive on Instagram but become difficult to use on packaging, signage, printed materials or a website. A font might look perfect in a logo, but its licence may not cover the intended commercial use, while stock imagery and AI-generated graphics can raise additional questions around permissions, ownership and how distinctive the finished identity really is.

There are also strategic problems that aren't immediately obvious when you're concentrating on how everything looks. A business might develop an identity around a particular audience, then discover that the people actually purchasing its services have different priorities or price expectations.

I've seen businesses encounter these kinds of problems after they've already spent considerable time and money developing things, which is particularly frustrating when some earlier planning could have helped identify the risks.

I can't provide legal advice about trademarks, intellectual property or licensing, but I can help identify areas that deserve attention and recommend seeking specialist guidance where necessary.

My aim is to help you make informed decisions before expensive work begins, rather than discovering avoidable complications when you're already halfway through launching your business.

What happens during the Brand Discovery Roadmap process?

The service includes three main stages, giving me time to understand your business, discuss the direction with you and then develop a practical plan based on our conversations and my research.

1. We begin with a detailed business questionnaire

Before our consultation, I'll ask you to complete a questionnaire covering the business you're building, your goals, the services or products you want to offer, your ideal customers and the price points you're considering.

I'm interested in understanding what you want the business to become, rather than simply what it looks like today. That includes the customers you'd like to attract, the problems you're hoping to solve and any concerns you already have about your positioning or marketing.

Your answers give us a useful starting point for the consultation and help me understand which areas may need more attention.

2. We discuss your business during a one-hour consultation

During our consultation, we'll talk through your answers, explore what you've already discovered and discuss the direction you're considering.

I'll give you my honest professional opinion about your positioning, intended audience, services, pricing and how the business could approach its marketing. If I notice something that might cause problems later, I'll explain why I think it's worth considering before you move forward.

I want this to be a warm, open conversation where we can explore different ideas and work towards a direction that makes sense for your business, rather than simply working through a rigid list of questions.

3. I develop your roadmap during a dedicated project day

Following our consultation, I'll set aside a dedicated day to research your business, explore relevant competitors and consider the strategic direction we've discussed.

I'll then bring those findings together into a detailed, personalised roadmap, including recommendations, practical next steps and a list of priorities to help you understand what should happen first.

The completed roadmap is delivered later that day, giving you a written plan you can return to as you develop your branding, website and marketing.

What is included in the finished Brand Discovery Roadmap?

The roadmap brings together the findings from our questionnaire, consultation and my research, turning them into practical recommendations for developing your business.

Depending on what we've discussed, that can include guidance around your ideal audience, brand positioning, services, pricing considerations and how to communicate the value of what you're selling.

I'll also consider how your intended positioning should influence your branding and marketing, including the importance of creating something recognisable, appropriate for your audience and usable across the different places your business needs to appear.

Another important part is identifying priorities, because knowing that ten different things need attention isn't particularly helpful if you have no idea which one to address first.

I'll explain what I think should happen, why it matters and how you could approach it, giving you a clearer order for developing the business rather than leaving you with a collection of disconnected suggestions.

If something falls outside my expertise, I'll make that clear. For example, I can help you develop a brand or website, but I can't provide tax advice, so I'd recommend speaking to an appropriately qualified professional and can suggest relevant referrals where possible.

The result is a detailed plan that considers both the creative and practical decisions involved in getting your business ready to market and sell.

How can I use my Brand Discovery Roadmap afterwards?

Your roadmap is designed to be something you can actually work with, whether you're developing the business yourself or planning to bring in professional support.

You might use it to brief a brand designer, decide what your website needs to communicate, refine your services or develop social media content around the customers you're trying to attract.

It can also help you make decisions about where to invest your budget, particularly when you're starting out and need to decide which things are essential now and which can wait until the business is more established.

If you eventually want to apply for business awards or seek press coverage, having a clearer brand position, recognisable identity and evidence of what makes your business distinctive can give you a stronger foundation for those opportunities.

Of course, a roadmap can't guarantee sales, awards or media coverage, but it can help you approach those goals with more preparation and a clearer understanding of what you want your business to be known for.

And if you have additional questions after receiving your roadmap, you're welcome to ask, because I want you to understand the recommendations and how to put them into practice.

What's the difference between a £60 Visibility Consultation and a £180 Brand Discovery Roadmap?

My Visibility Consultation is a focused, one-hour session designed to help identify a particular problem and give you a practical next step. It's useful when something specific isn't working, such as your website not generating enquiries or your social media struggling to attract customers.

The Brand Discovery Roadmap goes considerably further, because it includes the initial questionnaire, consultation, a dedicated day of research and a detailed written plan for developing your business.

I would generally recommend the roadmap when you need to reconsider the wider direction of your business or establish stronger foundations before investing in branding, website development or marketing.

The consultation is designed to help you work through a problem, while the roadmap is intended to give you a more comprehensive plan for what comes next.

FAQs about my Brand Discovery Roadmap

What is a Brand Discovery Roadmap? It's a personalised brand strategy plan that helps you understand your audience, positioning, services, pricing considerations and marketing direction. My package combines a questionnaire, one-hour consultation and dedicated project day, resulting in a detailed roadmap with practical recommendations and priorities.

Is the Brand Discovery Roadmap suitable for a new business? Yes, it's particularly useful for new businesses because it helps identify important decisions before you invest heavily in branding, websites and marketing. We can explore what you're planning to sell, who you're trying to reach and how you want the business to be positioned.

Can a Brand Discovery Roadmap help an established business? Absolutely, especially if your existing branding no longer reflects your services, you're struggling to attract the right customers or you're considering a complete change in direction. We can review what's happening and explore which foundations may need revisiting.

Does the package include a logo or website? No, the Brand Discovery Roadmap is a strategic planning service rather than a design or website build package. However, the finished plan can help guide those projects, and I can discuss relevant creative services if you'd like support putting the recommendations into practice.

Can it help me avoid expensive branding mistakes? The roadmap can help you identify potential problems with your positioning, intended applications and wider brand direction before investing in extensive creative work. It can also highlight where specialist guidance may be needed, although it doesn't replace legal advice about licensing or intellectual property.

Will you research my competitors? Yes, competitor research is part of the dedicated project day, helping me consider how your business is positioned within its market and where there may be opportunities to develop a more distinctive approach.

Will I receive a written plan? Yes, I'll develop a detailed roadmap based on our discussions and my findings, including recommendations and a priority list to help you understand what to work on first. The completed document is delivered later on your dedicated project day, and you're welcome to ask additional questions afterwards.

Do I have to purchase branding or website services afterwards? No, the roadmap is a standalone service that you can use to guide your own decisions or brief other professionals. If you'd like help with branding, websites or social media afterwards, I'm happy to discuss the options available.

How much does a Brand Discovery Roadmap cost? My Brand Discovery Roadmap costs £180, approximately $240, and includes the questionnaire, one-hour consultation, dedicated research and planning day, and completed written roadmap.
