What's included in a £460 Foundation Brand Identity for small businesses? (Approx. $610).
Hi, I’m Bry, founder of Hi This Is Bry. I’m a multi award winning Creative Strategist and Brand Consultant helping people build award worthy brands and make them visible. I write about branding, marketing, visibility and consumer behaviour, breaking down why recognisable brands succeed, why people buy and what you can apply to what you’re building.
Starting a business usually involves making an enormous number of decisions, and one of the most exciting is figuring out how you want everything to look. You might already have a clear idea of your audience, services, personality and pricing, but translating those ideas into a professional visual identity is another challenge entirely.
Perhaps you've been experimenting with logos in Canva, collecting inspiration on Pinterest or trying to find colours and fonts that feel right together. You might even have a logo you quite like, but you're beginning to realise that you need something more complete if you're going to use your branding consistently across a website, social media, packaging or printed materials.
The difficulty is that creating a professional brand identity involves much more than choosing a few attractive colours and making a logo. Everything needs to work together, communicate the right things about your business and be practical enough to use as the business develops.
That's why I created my £460 Foundation Brand Identity, a complete visual branding package for small businesses and solopreneurs who already understand their business direction but need a professional identity created from scratch. It includes an original logo suite, a coordinated colour palette, typography, five custom illustrations, icons, patterns or other distinctive graphics, and a one-page brand sheet, with creative decisions informed by research into your audience, competitors and market.

What is a Foundation Brand Identity?
A Foundation Brand Identity is a professionally developed visual identity that gives your business a recognisable and consistent appearance across the different places your customers might encounter it.
Rather than simply receiving one logo, you'll have a collection of visual elements designed to work together, including logo variations, colours, typography and custom graphics that reflect your business and the people you're hoping to attract.
The important thing is that we're building the identity around what your business needs to communicate, not simply whichever visual style you happen to like most. I want to understand your audience, positioning, pricing and overall business personality, because those things should influence how the finished identity looks and feels.
For example, a business selling playful gifts might benefit from colourful typography and distinctive illustrated elements, while a professional services business might need a different balance of personality, credibility and clarity. Neither approach is automatically better, because the appropriate direction depends on what the business offers and who it's trying to reach.
Who is the Foundation Brand Identity package for?
This package is designed for small businesses and solopreneurs that need a complete visual identity created from scratch, but already have a reasonably clear understanding of their audience, positioning and services.
It's particularly suitable for people preparing to launch a new business, because we can establish the visual foundations before you begin investing in websites, signage, packaging or marketing materials.
It's also useful for established businesses that have never had a complete professional identity, perhaps because they've been relying on a DIY logo, inconsistent colours or different design templates that don't quite work together.
The key distinction is that this package focuses on developing your visual branding. If you're still trying to determine what your business should offer, who your ideal customers are or how you want to position yourself within the market, my Brand Discovery Roadmap or a more comprehensive brand development package may be a better starting point.
What's included in my £460 Foundation Brand Identity?
The package brings together the essential elements of a professional visual identity, with the creative direction developed specifically for your business rather than adapted from a premade branding template.
Strategic research and creative direction
Before I begin designing, I need to understand what your business is trying to achieve and how you want customers to perceive it.
My onboarding form includes questions about your visual preferences, business personality and the direction you're considering. I combine those answers with research into your audience, competitors and wider market to identify an appropriate creative direction.
This is where my background in brand strategy becomes particularly useful, because I'm balancing several different considerations at once. I want the identity to reflect your personality and preferences, but it also needs to communicate the right things to your customers, feel appropriate for your price point and stand out within your industry.
Sometimes those considerations align beautifully, while other times we need to explore alternatives to find something that works for both you and your audience.
I'll also create a moodboard to communicate the intended direction before moving further into the design process, giving you an opportunity to understand the overall visual approach and how the different elements might work together.
A custom logo suite
Your logo is one of the most recognisable parts of your visual identity, but a single logo arrangement isn't always practical for every situation.
For example, a wide logo might work beautifully across the top of your website but become difficult to use as a social media profile picture, while a more compact or stacked arrangement might be better suited to stickers, packaging or other smaller applications.
That's why I create a logo suite rather than treating one design as the entire identity. I'll develop appropriate variations of the main logo, considering how the artwork needs to adapt to different layouts and applications while remaining recognisable.
The designs are created specifically for your business, with attention given to typography, proportions, readability and how the logo works alongside the rest of the identity.
I don't use premade logo templates, stock illustrations or AI-generated artwork to create your custom identity, because I want the design to be original and developed around the business it's supposed to represent.
A coordinated colour palette and typography
Colour and typography play an enormous role in how customers perceive a brand, influencing everything from its personality to how established, approachable or distinctive it appears.
I'll develop a colour palette that reflects the agreed creative direction, considering how the colours work together and how they can be used consistently across digital and printed materials.
Rather than selecting one or two colours in isolation, I'll look at how the palette functions as a whole, including which colours are most prominent and which can be used to introduce contrast, variety or emphasis.
Typography is just as important because different fonts communicate different things, and they also need to work practically across the places your business operates. I'll consider how the typefaces complement your logo, how readable they are and whether they're suitable for your intended applications.
I also pay attention to font licensing, because being able to download or preview a typeface doesn't automatically mean you have permission to use it commercially in every situation. Where third-party fonts are used, the relevant licence terms still apply.
Five custom illustrations, icons, patterns or distinctive graphics
This is one of my favourite parts of developing a visual identity, because I think a brand becomes much more interesting when it has distinctive elements beyond the logo itself.
Your package includes five custom graphic assets, which could be illustrations, icons, patterns or other branded elements that help bring your visual identity to life. We'll discuss which combination makes the most sense for your business, rather than automatically giving everybody the same collection of graphics.
For example, a playful retail brand might benefit from illustrated motifs that can appear across its packaging and social media, while a professional services business might make better use of custom icons or decorative patterns that add personality without overwhelming the overall design.
These elements can help your business develop a more recognisable visual style, particularly when you need to create marketing materials regularly and don't want every design to rely entirely on displaying your logo. They're also useful for maintaining consistency because you have original branded artwork to work with, rather than searching for unrelated graphics whenever you need something new.
I create these elements specifically for your business and develop them alongside the wider visual identity, so the illustrations, icons or patterns feel like a natural part of the brand rather than an assortment of decorations.
The five assets are agreed as part of the project and are designed to support your visual identity. Finished marketing materials such as complete flyers, pitch decks or social media campaigns are separate deliverables rather than being automatically included in this package.
A one-page brand sheet
Once the identity has been developed, I'll bring the key visual elements together into a simple, one-page brand sheet that you can use as a day-to-day reference.
This gives you somewhere to check your logo variations, brand colours, chosen typography and supporting graphics rather than trying to remember which version you're supposed to use or searching through old files whenever you create something new.
It's particularly useful when you're making your own social media graphics, briefing a printer, working on your website or collaborating with somebody who needs to understand how your branding should look.
I deliberately keep this reference straightforward because most small business owners need something practical they can return to regularly, rather than an enormous brand guidelines document that becomes another thing they have to find time to read.
What happens during the brand identity design process?
We begin with my onboarding questions and an initial consultation, where I'll learn more about your business, your customers and the kind of visual direction you're considering.
I'll then carry out the relevant research, explore suitable creative directions and put together a moodboard to communicate the overall approach. This helps establish how your preferences, market positioning and audience expectations can work together before we move further into the design.
Once we've established the direction, I'll develop the agreed identity, including your custom logo suite, colour palette, typography and five supporting graphic assets. We'll discuss the designs and any refinements needed within the agreed project scope, with the finished elements brought together into your one-page brand sheet.
I want the finished identity to feel like something you're genuinely excited to use, but I also want to be able to explain the thinking behind the decisions I've made. Sometimes that means recommending something slightly different from what you originally imagined, particularly when research suggests another direction might communicate your offer more effectively.
Ultimately, you're paying for both the creative work and the professional judgement that goes into developing something appropriate for your business.
Why is owning your brand artwork so important?
This is something I wish more small business owners understood before they invested in branding, because I've encountered businesses using graphics, illustrations and fonts without realising they might not have the rights they thought they did.
A graphic being available through a design platform doesn't automatically mean you own it, have exclusive rights to it or can use it as part of a registered trademark. Stock illustrations, fonts and other third-party materials can have their own licensing conditions, and problems can arise when a business starts using those elements across more applications than the original permissions allow.
These issues can become particularly frustrating as a business grows, especially if you've already invested in packaging, signage, websites and marketing materials that rely on an element you later discover you can't use as intended.
Original artwork and intellectual property
One of the things I take seriously when developing a brand identity is creating original artwork specifically for the client, rather than assembling a logo using stock graphics or AI-generated imagery.
I create my custom logos, illustrations, icons, patterns and branded graphics myself, which means I can formally assign the intellectual property rights I own in that original commissioned work through a written IP assignment document. I think this is especially important because you've paid somebody to create an identity for your business, and you should understand exactly what rights you're receiving in return.
Having that documentation can also be valuable if somebody later copies your artwork or disputes who owns it, because you have written evidence of the rights transferred to your business.
I sometimes think of it like insurance in the sense that it's something you hope you'll never need to rely on, but you'll be very glad you have the documentation if a problem arises. An IP assignment isn't literally insurance, and it doesn't prevent somebody from copying your work or guarantee the outcome of a dispute, but it helps establish a clearer record of ownership.
It's also important to distinguish original artwork from third-party materials. For example, a commercial font remains subject to its own licence, and transferring rights in a custom logo doesn't automatically transfer ownership of the underlying typeface.
I can't provide legal advice or guarantee that artwork is free from every possible intellectual property dispute, but I can create original visual assets, document the rights I own and help clients make more informed decisions about the materials used within their branding.
For me, that's an important part of developing a visual identity that's intended to support a business for years rather than simply look attractive when it's first launched.
Why do you need more than a logo for your small business?
A logo is useful, but it doesn't tell you how to design a website, choose photographs, put together a flyer or make your Instagram posts look like they all belong to the same business.
Without a wider visual identity, it's very easy to end up using different colours, fonts and design styles whenever you create something new, particularly if you're working with several different suppliers or making your own marketing materials.
Having a coordinated logo suite, colour palette, typography, custom branded graphics and a brand sheet gives you a much clearer starting point, helping you make creative decisions without reinventing the appearance of your business every time.
Those five additional graphic assets can be particularly useful because they give you more creative freedom to develop materials that still feel recognisably yours. A simple branded pattern, illustrated motif or custom icon can help tie different pieces of marketing together without making everything look identical.
And importantly, looking professional doesn't mean your branding has to be minimalist, serious or stripped of personality. Some of the most recognisable identities are colourful, playful and full of character, and the difference is often in how thoughtfully those elements have been developed.
I want small businesses to feel confident expressing their personality while still having branding that's appropriate for their audience, visually consistent and practical to work with.
What's the difference between a Foundation Brand Identity and my other branding packages?
My Strategic Brand Refresh (£360) is designed for established businesses that already have an identity worth keeping but need professional help refining it. We review the existing artwork, research the market and make agreed improvements to the logo, colours, typography and supporting elements, rather than starting again.
The Foundation Brand Identity (£460) is for businesses that need a complete new visual identity but already understand their audience, positioning and what they want to sell. It provides the logo suite, colours, typography, five custom graphic assets and brand sheet without turning the project into an extensive business strategy programme.
My Complete Brand and Visibility Package (£1,200) is a more comprehensive option for businesses that need support with both their strategic foundations and visual identity, alongside a visibility and authority plan, launch guidance and five agreed marketing assets.
Those five marketing assets are different from the supporting illustrations, icons or patterns included in the Foundation Brand Identity, because they're agreed materials intended to help you put the wider brand and visibility plan into practice.
The right option depends on what's already in place and which parts of your business need attention, so I'm always happy to discuss the differences before you decide which direction to take.
FAQs about my Foundation Brand Identity
What is included in a Foundation Brand Identity package? My £460 package includes an initial consultation, research-informed creative direction, a custom logo suite, coordinated colour palette, typography, five custom illustrations, icons, patterns or other branded graphics, and a one-page brand sheet. The aim is to give your business a complete visual identity that you can use consistently across your marketing.
Is a Foundation Brand Identity suitable for a new business? Yes, particularly if you've already established what you're selling, who your audience is and how you want to position your business. Creating the visual identity before investing in websites and other marketing materials can help you develop a more consistent appearance from the beginning.
What's the difference between a logo and a brand identity? A logo is one recognisable element of your business, while a visual brand identity includes the wider system of colours, typography, logo variations and supporting graphics that influence how your business looks across different applications.
What are the five custom graphics included in the package? These are five original visual assets created specifically for your business, which could include illustrations, icons, decorative patterns or other distinctive branded elements. We'll agree on the most useful combination for your identity, considering how you plan to use your branding.
Will you research my competitors before designing my branding? Yes, I consider your competitors, market suitability, audience and positioning alongside your visual preferences when developing the creative direction. This research informs the design decisions, although a complete brand strategy and visibility plan are separate services.
Can I choose my own brand colours and fonts? Your preferences are an important part of the process, and I'll ask about them during onboarding. I'll balance what you like with research into your audience, positioning, pricing and the practical requirements of the identity, so the finished branding is both personal and appropriate for your business.
Will I own my logo and branding? I create original commissioned logos and supporting graphics, and I can provide a written assignment of the intellectual property rights I own in that work, with the scope of the transfer set out in the document. Third-party materials, including fonts, remain subject to their own licences, so I'll distinguish those from the original artwork being assigned.
Do you use AI or premade templates to design logos? No, I create my custom logo artwork and branded graphics myself rather than relying on AI-generated designs, premade logo templates or stock illustrations. I want the identity to be developed specifically for your business, with original creative work and a documented approach to ownership.
Does the package include social media templates or a website? The Foundation Brand Identity focuses on creating your visual identity, including five supporting custom graphic assets, so finished marketing templates and website design aren't automatically included. If you'd like support with those things, I offer separate services and more comprehensive packages that we can discuss.
What is a brand sheet and why do I need one? A brand sheet is a concise visual reference showing the key elements of your identity, including your logo variations, colours, typography and supporting graphics. It helps you maintain a consistent appearance when creating content, working with printers or briefing other professionals.
How much does a Foundation Brand Identity cost? My Foundation Brand Identity costs £460, approximately $610, and covers the initial consultation, research-informed visual direction, original logo suite, colour palette, typography, five custom supporting graphic assets and one-page brand sheet.
