CASE STUDY
Book cover design for Campbell Thompson's self published dark romance trilogy
Client: Campbell Thompson
Focus: Book cover design
THE BRIEF
Campbell Thompson is a self-publishing author of The Eighth Circle, a dark enemies-to-lovers thriller series set in the criminal underworld, available in paperback and on Kindle Unlimited. She needed cover designs that felt genuinely commercial: series-consistent, genre-appropriate and strong enough to stand alongside traditionally published titles on Amazon. She came with a clear creative vision, including a specific brief for metal roses as a recurring design element.
THE APPROACH
I designed covers for all three books, Double Cross, Crossfire and Crosshairs, building a visual identity that carries across the full trilogy. The metal roses Campbell requested became a signature detail woven through each cover, alongside the series' ouroboros symbol, barbed wire and blood-red accents. The colour scheme alternates across the three covers while keeping the same palette, so each book feels distinct but unmistakably part of the same world.
THE OUTCOME
All three books are live on Amazon with five-star reviews, the first book alone has 14 ratings. The covers give the series a polished, professionally published look that holds its own in a competitive genre and reflects the dark, atmospheric tone of Campbell's writing.
