Ambitious Women in Essex is a council-led networking initiative created to support and connect female-founded businesses across the county. It has been run for over two years by Eve Calderbank, a passionate advocate for women in business and a colleague within Essex County Council.

My Role
I had the privilege of supporting Ambitious Women in Essex through my role within the Business Support Team at Essex County Council. Working alongside Eve and contributing to a programme so aligned with my own values has been a highlight of my time in the team.

My work involved both content and event delivery, always with the goal of making the experience feel as supportive and empowering as possible.
Organising workshops and events

The outcome
Ambitious Women in Essex has continued to grow its reach and deepen its impact. Events attracted a wide range of founders from across the region, with many forming ongoing connections beyond the sessions.

Many business owners shared how valuable the free support was, especially in the early stages of building their brand. Through this work, we gave women not just information, but encouragement and access to support.
Being a small business owner can be isolating, especially if you are doing it all yourself. Having a space where you can meet others, access real support and feel like you belong can make a big difference to your business and overall wellbeing.
I feel grateful to have been part of Ambitious Women and to have worked alongside Eve, whose leadership and warmth shaped the community's success.
