Ambitious Women in Essex is a council-led networking group supporting female founders and small business owners across the region.

Social media has real potential for growth, but its fast-changing tools and language can feel overwhelming. As part of the wider business support programme, we identified a need for clear, accessible social media guidance. Many participants felt unsure how to use social platforms effectively, and lacked the time or budget for formal training.

My Role
As part of the Business Support Team at Essex County Council, I organised a three-part workshop series to help local founders build confidence with social media.
I handled logistics, coordinated with expert speakers (all female founders), booked venues, promoted the events, and supported attendees throughout.
The workshops covered:
Photography for branding
Social media strategy
Writing for social media and SEO
Planning social media workshops
Coordinating guest speakers
Booking venues and logistics
Promoting events online
Supporting attendees on the day

The outcome
The workshop series gave attendees free access to expert insights and practical tools they might not otherwise afford. For many, it was their first time receiving guidance from industry professionals in a supportive, down-to-earth setting.
The sessions helped build confidence, clarified how to use visual storytelling and strategic writing, and made social media feel more manageable and less overwhelming.
Support like this should be accessible to all business owners, not just those with extra time or budget. Through this council-led initiative, we reached women who might have missed out on the tools and encouragement they needed.
This project reflects my belief in support that is practical, inclusive and empowering.
