Mentoring the Next Generation of Creative Entrepreneurs
Partners: Level 4 Creative Enterprise Course
Project: Supporting students with business plans
Focus: Planning, Personal Branding, Mentorship
Breaking into the creative industry is harder than ever, especially for students navigating limited support, rising costs, and a professional world that often feels unwelcoming.
At Colchester Institute, Level 4 Media students are asked to develop business plans and personal brand presentations as part of their final major project.
This is a pivotal moment. It is often their first opportunity to think seriously about going freelance, applying to university, or securing early paid work.

My Role
Over the past two years, I’ve supported students at Colchester Institute by offering real-world feedback, creative direction and practical advice grounded in industry experience. Each year, I’m invited to review their final projects, helping them shape stronger business plans, portfolios and personal brands.
I also offer mentoring, references and one-to-one sessions to encourage students to pursue creative careers without losing sight of their values. My goal is to be an open door, not a gatekeeper.

The outcome
While formal assessment is handled by the academic team, my role is to leave students with something more lasting: the belief that there is space for them in the industry, a clearer link between their creative identity and real world needs, and the confidence to ask for help and trust their instincts.
Many students follow up after the session, whether for portfolio support, job application advice or simply a bit of encouragement.
"Bry has been a great addition to our Level 4 Creative Enterprise course. She is knowledgeable and personable. The students really resonate with her work and thought processes. She gives useful direction to the students in an encouraging way."
