Client: Blatella Films (via iae Marketing)
Collaborators: iae Marketing
Focus: Brand design and illustration for a documentary Note: undertaken as a freelancer on behalf of iae Marketing
THE BRIEF
Witchcraft and Stilettos is a feature documentary produced by Essex-based company Blatella Films and directed by Natalie Scarsbrook. The film reclaims and redefines the outdated and harmful "Essex Girl" stereotype through interviews and personal stories, shifting the narrative from mockery to pride and power. The task was to create a logo, supporting illustration and a visual identity that could carry through marketing, promotional materials, and on-screen use.
THE APPROACH
The design needed to steer away from stereotypical "witch" tropes and instead centre the strength, femininity and purpose behind the project. This included the logo and brand direction, a custom illustration pattern used as a filming backdrop, and a consistent visual language across platforms and promotional materials, confident, female-led and purposeful throughout.
THE OUTCOME
Bold, story-led visuals that reflected the film's purpose with clarity and strength. The brand was used across digital platforms, on set and in promotional materials. Since its release, the film has gained positive press coverage and strong engagement across social media, with the visual identity playing a key role in shaping its public presence.
RESULT
The film gained positive press coverage and strong social media engagement following its release, with the visual identity playing a key role in shaping its public presence and message.
